Wheat Breeding Program

The primary goal of the Virginia Tech Wheat Breeding Program is to develop, release, and provide producers with superior high yielding, disease resistant cultivars of soft red winter wheat, hard red winter wheat, and winter durum having desirable quality for traditional and speciality end use markets.Major research emphasis focuses on the identification, genetic characterization, molecular mapping, and marker assisted selection and breeding for durable disease resistance and market quality parameters.
